1/8 Dead Master Original Version
You know, her name never sounded right at all. Dead Master. A master that is dead? =.=; It should have been Death Master, which is more appropriate, but the English of Japanese are never really good (maybe except the younger generation). Putting petty matters aside, here’s another loot of mine from the BRS “family”. I had no idea whether I should buy the figma one. It’s not a bad choice, but budget is quite an issue after a big-spending month last December was.
I bought her for the usual release price, 9800 yen. She was express-shipped along with BRS anime version, for free. I have high expectations for her, especially when she is released just after 3 weeks the release of BRS Anime version, which caused a mayhem among enthusiasts with its QC problem. Glad that DM turned out to be gorgeous and problems-free.
Out of box, you get the figure, the gorgeous brick-like base, which is even better than BRS Original version, the scythe, a skull, a chain, a replaceable finger part (which has a peg to hold the skull), her wings as separate parts. and the base. The skulls on her box can glow in the dark, which may convince you to keep the box – I preferred this gimmick to be implemented on her skull which is held in the right arm (it seem to glow well actually) and hopefully, her eyes. I can dream, can’t I? XD The same goes to BRS’s blue flame on her right eye.
The evaluation:
Pros: Detailed sculpt with shading/highlighting especially her hair, simple but attractive pose, all-time best display base when compared to other figures (even better than BRS original version), flawless paintjob, attractive box, very stable, easy assemble, wings are self-assembly
Cons: large visible seam line on her right side of her dress, legs a little bit wide/inaccurate to the pegs on the base
The main concern some had for this figure is her hair, which seem fragile, but is rather ok to me. The main issue is the large ugly seamline as seen below, which is a bummer. If this seam line doesn’t exist this would be a perfect figure. The detailed twirls with green shading suits her, the evil facial expression -nothing to nitpick about.
Assembly is a bit tricky on the finger to skull attachment. The pegs are exact fit and very precise and you’ll need to put in some effort and take extra care not to use too much brutal force and break the finger. It’s not really a daunting task to place both the chain and the skull on her left claw though, I only need less than 5 minutes, but there are some who complain they could not even get the skull attached to the finger. Her legs seem a little bit too wide in spread to fit the pegs on the base. No worries, just force them in, they went in easily. =)
Her outfit is nothing unique in terms of design, just plain dark grey, but the details are there. Her reasonably-sized boobs also earn a point when compared to BRS. =P I’m glad the wings are separate parts, or such parts might suffer breakage during shipping process. I wonder why Good Smile didn’t do the same to BRS anime version’s pony tails. They got broken during international shipping, for the unfortunate ones.
Hmm, this review seem a lot shorter than my previous one – BRS Anime Version. Because, BRS had more photos, especially on assembly process which I wish to share with those who does not own this figure yet. In the end, this figure would be perfect to me IF that stupid seam line which is an eyesore when you view her from near on her dress did not exist. I managed to hide it with dark photography and proper lighting direction. If you want a figure of BRS’s nemesis, buy her. Perhaps, if you own a BRS original version figure, havig her is a must. They look great when placed together!
